Dr. Ishan Barman is a renowned professor of mechanical engineering at Johns Hopkins University, with joint appointments in the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center and the Department of Radiology and Radiological Science.

A leading authority in biomedical imaging and bioengineering, Dr. Barman's research program addresses fundamental biological questions and applied clinical research through biophotonics, nanomaterials, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Since establishing his laboratory at Johns Hopkins in 2014, Dr. Barman has innovated the application of spontaneous and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) for ultrasensitive molecular detection. His pioneering work spans virus sensing, DNA nanotechnology, and AI-assisted imaging, significantly contributing to early disease detection and tissue analysis.
