Biofilms are protective microbial layers that allow pathogens like Listeria and Salmonella to persist in food production and processing environments. These structures shield bacteria from conventional sanitizers and are a leading cause of repeat contamination.

The foundation of this technology is reflected in its name: ClO₂57. The "5" signifies the chemistry’s ability to accept 5 electrons, providing a significantly higher oxidative capacity than the 2-electron receivers found in common biocides. The "7" refers to its neutral pH (6.5–7.5), which ensures material compatibility and safety. Because ClO₂57 is an unstable compound that strips electrons to collapse cell walls from within, pathogens cannot build a resistance to it.
